Manchester United have picked up 26 points after their first 17 league games this season under Jose Mourinho; their worst points haul in the top-flight at this stage since 1990-91 (also 26 points).

United also only won 176 Premier League points under the Portuguese; fewer than Manchester City (222), Tottenham Hotspur (202), Chelsea (200) and Liverpool (196) since August 2016.

Opta only began recording shot data for the 2003-04 season, but in those 15 years, United have never faced as many shots (36) as they did against Liverpool in the 3-1 drubbing at Anfield in December.

The win for their long-term rivals put Liverpool 19 points clear of United, a record advantage for the Reds after the first 17 games of an English top-flight season.

David de Gea has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League in recent seasons, but his surprisingly poor form, as well as inconsistent defending in front of him, saw United go 13 consecutive games without a clean sheet in all competitions, their worst run since August 1971.

Furthermore, during this period from February to April 2019, they were kept scoreless on five occasions.

United's away form in spring 2019 was their worst since March 1981, when Dave Sexton's Red Devils also lost five away games in a row in all competitions.

Solskjaer's away run included a 2-0 loss to Arsenal, two 2-1 defeats to Wolves in both league and FA Cup, as well as a 3-0 loss to Barcelona and then a 4-0 humiliation at the hands of Everton.

United set a new Premier League landmark for goals conceded (52 so far), eclipsing their previous worst statistic on Easter Sunday during a 4-0 defeat to Everton.

The 2018-19 season was their first time conceding 50 goals in the Premier League and the worst season defensively since 1978-79, when they shipped 63 goals.

The 4-0 away loss at Everton in April was United's biggest margin of defeat since 2016, but also their joint-fourth worst top-flight scoreline in the Premier League era.

That 2016 loss was also a 4-0 defeat, but at the hands of Chelsea. Only three games have been worse for United, all by five goals – against Newcastle (0-5 in 1996), Chelsea (0-5 in 1999) and Manchester City (1-6 in 2011).

Pep Guardiola became the first manager to win his first three visits to Old Trafford, bettering the records of Sam Allardyce and Ronald Koeman, who both had won their first two trips to the Theatre of Dreams.

City had won their home game 3-1 in November and completed the home-and-away double in April with a 2-0 win to ensure Manchester was blue once more.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also became the fifth successive United boss to lose his first game against City, with Alex Ferguson the last man to defeat their local rivals at the first attempt.

Manchester United had a few entertaining European nights this season, but suffered a heavy 3-0 loss at Camp Nou to see Barcelona add to their 1-0 win at Old Trafford and record a 4-0 aggregate win.

That is now United's worst two-legged scoreline in Europe; their previous heaviest was 2-5 against AC Milan in the 1957-58 European Cup semi-final and 1-4 to Atletico Madrid in the 1991-92 Cup Winners’ Cup round of 16.

The loss in Camp Nou was also their fifth Champions League defeat this season, their joint-worst number of defeats in a single Champions League campaign.

The Old Trafford game also set records of its own, becoming the first time since 2005 where United failed to get a shot on target in Europe.

Manchester United should have signed off the season with something positive for their travelling supporters, playing their last away game against already-relegated Huddersfield Town.

The Terriers had just 14 points before hosting the Red Devils, but ended a run of nine straight defeats in the Premier League with a 1-1 draw against United.

It was the first time since 2011-12 when Alex Ferguson was in charge that Manchester United failed to win their last away game of the season.

For only the fourth time in the Premier League era, Manchester United failed to qualify for the Champions League.

United's fate for next season was sealed with that 1-1 draw on Huddersfield, also ensuring they would fail to get 70 points this season.

They are currently sitting on their second-lowest points tally since 1992 (66 points), meaning 2018-19 is also the fourth time they fail to hit the 70-point park – a figure which was always bettered during Alex Ferguson's reign.
