  • WHAT THE PUNDITS ARE SAYING

Sitting alongside Kate Scott and Jamie Carragher, the trio were shown a clip of a Bayern fan in the stands receiving a face full of drink after accidentally spilling it on herself during the game. Richards opted for a suggestive "no comment" response with a huge smile on his face. His insinuation left both CBS Sports colleagues Scott and Carragher speechless and it was not long before fans on social media picked up on the incident.

    WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

One user, @MMcC_86, has suggested that Richards could be dropped for such a comment, saying: "Micah Richards is about to get sacked on-air there's no way he said what he just said."

Another fan, @TobiasFJolly, believes the entire moment was written for TV. He posted: "Scripted clickbait sh*t."

@woso_anya164, added: "ofc people think it's wokeness gone mad and ik he likes being edgy but i think micah richards shouldn't have made that joke abt the bayern fan who spilt beer on her face... just needlessly crude and objectifying. 'no comment' is still a comment."

User @avfc_stev has gone so far as to compare Richards to Richard Keys, who was famously sacked by Sky Sports for making sexist comments live on air. The post read: "Micah Richards going all Richard Keys on us…?"

Finally, @bigphil321 weighed in, saying: "I’m not a fan of Micah Richards at all, I think he’s a terrible pundit on Sky.. But this from him last night was actually pretty funny. And those saying he’ll be sacked, I doubt it. Not sure anyone ever got sacked for saying ‘no comment'."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

CBS Sports are known to tow a lenient line when it comes to allowing their producers to go off script in the studio. Richards' remarks may have upset some viewers, but it seems unlikely that it is a moment he will lose his job over.

    WHAT NEXT FOR RICHARDS?

The former Manchester City star is set to return for punditry duties during Wednesday night's Champions League action. The night is sure to be full of laughs as usual but Richards may choose to select his words more carefully for the time being.
