Messi missing as Alisson and Alves headline Copa America Team of the Tournament

Another young Brazilian striker that stepped up in the final third was Everton as he ended the Copa America as joint-top scorer with three goals to his name.

The 23-year-old opened the scoring in the final against Peru as he arrived at the back post to volley home a Jesus cross at the first time of asking. 

While a crucial and composed strike, Everton's first goal at the tournament against Bolivia was the standout as he cut in from the left wing and rifled the ball home. 

Still playing club football for Brazilian club Gremio, the explosive attacker is set to spark plenty of transfer speculation and suggested last month his style of play could fit in at Old Trafford.

"I'm a player that's always trying to get on top... cutting in from the left with dribbles and good finishes," Everton told the Daily Mail.

"Clubs in Europe have this style of play too and maybe I can fit in at Manchester United and others."

Two goals. Two assists. One red card.

It was a turbulent but overall very successful Copa America for Gabriel Jesus, who was controversially sent off in the final against Peru. 

Despite his dismissal, the Manchester City striker stood out in the decider as he set up Everton for the opener before slotting home Brazil's second. 

While a questionable second yellow saw Jesus end the tournament on the sidelines, his contribution for Brazil throughout was significant, with the 22-year-old putting a barren World Cup behind him and showing he's ready to star up front for the Selecao. 

Two superb strikes from Peruvian winger Edison Flores highlight what was a strong tournament for the 25-year-old. 

After a cool finish against Bolivia, Flores gave his nation the lead against Chile in the semi-finals with a thunderous volley at the near post. 

Currently playing club football for Mexican side Morelia, the pacey attacker will surely attract some transfer interest over the coming weeks having turned heads in Brazil with his lightning pace and cool finishing. 

Chile ace ​Charles Aranguiz ended the Copa America with the joint-most assists after setting up three of his nation's seven goals. 

The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder was particularly dangerous with his crosses and created a whopping 11 goalscoring chances across wins over Japan and Ecuador.

After such a strong showing in Brazil, the 30-year-old has reportedly attracted the attention of West Ham and AC Milan – two clubs that could certainly benefit from the versatile Chilean. 

While Coutinho had a solid tournament, his Barcelona team-mate Arthur arguably outshone him in Brazil's midfield.

Though he finished with just one assist and no goals to his name, the 23-year-old offered the Selecao a crucial spark in the middle and did enough to suggest he'll be a crucial player in years to come. 

Regularly dictating play for Tite's side with some smart passing, Arthur admitted prior to the tournament that he's able to do more for his country than for his club and backed that up with his Copa America performances.  

"In the national team I have more freedom to drop deeper and help build up the play, and I think that is the biggest difference in the styles," Arthur was quoted as saying by Marca.

"Tite gives me more freedom to do this and look for the ball in deeper areas – that is freedom I do not get at Barcelona."

After a subdued season at club level, Philippe Coutinho took his chance to shine on the international stage in Brazil.

While he didn't exactly steal the show for Selecao, the Barcelona attacker was a key contributor – scoring twice and picking up one assist as he showed signs of his former explosive self.

Coutinho was particularly impressive against Peru in the group stages where, despite not getting on the score sheet, he claimed an assist and created a game-high five chances. 

Linked with potential moves to PSG and Liverpool this summmer, the 27-year-old show that in spite of his troubles at Barca, he's still got that special something at the Copa America.  

Peru's fairytale run to the Copa America final had a lot to do with their dynamic left-back ​Miguel Trauco. 

The 26-year-old, who plays club football in Brazil for ​Flamengo, was a constant threat down the left flank for Peru.

Capable of a killer pass into the final third and a sharp dribbler, Trauco added a crucial dimension to Peru's game and no doubt raised his own profile significantly with a standout tournament. 

From an equaliser against Japan to a goal-line clearance against Chile, Jose Gimenez was crucial in defence and attack for Uruguay in Brazil.

The imposing Atletico Madrid defender was a big reason his nation was able to keep three clean sheets across their four games at the Copa America. 

At just 24, Gimenez plays with the maturity of a much older head and has long since proven himself to be a worthy partner for Diego Godin.  

"It was very complicated, I had diarrhoea and was vomiting."

Despite literally leaking at both ends in Brazil's semi-final against Argentina, Marquinhos still found a way to stop Lionel Messi from scoring and was in inspired form across the entire tournament. 

The versatile PSG player proved a crucial cog in the Selecao's rock solid backline as his nation conceded just one goal across six games. 

Marquinhos also showed real steel to step up to the penalty spot in Brazil's shootout win over Paraguay in the quarter-finals – something you don't see many centre-backs doing. 

He might be 36 and without a club, but Dani Alves reminded the world what he's capable of at the Copa America.

The right-back was instrumental in Brazil's semi-final win over Argentina and netted a superb solo goal in the group stages against Peru. 

Pivotal in his nation's triumph on home soil, Alves became the first footballer ever to claim 40 trophies and he was truly deserving of this latest addition. 

He was rightly voted the player of the tournament and has put forward his case for being the best right-back of all time. 

After a stunning club season with Liverpool, Alisson's fine form in goal continued for Brazil at the Copa America.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper kept five clean sheets and conceded just one goal across the entire tournament in the form of a penalty in the final against Peru.  

Alisson picked up his third Golden Glove over the past 12 months in the process, having also claimed the award in the Premier League and Champions League. 

Former Reds keeper Ray Clemence recently declaring he has the potential to become a Liverpool legend having now inked his name into Brazilian history. 

"He never seems to get flustered... he has that ability to make saves other goalkeepers can’t make," Clemence told Sky Sports.
