  • WHAT HAPPENED?

England captain Kane spent 19 years on the books at Spurs, having first linked up with them as a starry-eyed youth team hopeful. He departed for Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023 as the club’s all-time leading scorer, with 280 goals recorded through 435 appearances.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

While he was able to rewrite the history books with Premier League giants, major silverware remained elusive. Kane is still waiting to break that duck, despite maintaining stunning individual standards in Germany, but is being backed to savour an unfamiliar winning feeling at some point in the not too distant future.

  • WHAT MICHEL VORM SAID

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Vorm, who witnessed Kane’s rise to the top of the global game as a club colleague, has – speaking in association with 888sport – told GOAL of why it was clear from a young age that one of the best No.9s in the business may have to leave his comfort zone in order to get the recognition and honours that he deserves: “He knows his strengths. He focuses on getting better at the things that he is already good at. He keeps it very simple, very direct.

“I think he has changed a little bit over the years, but his basic attributes are so good and it’s just training, training, training, repeat, repeat. I played with a lot of good players and he always reminded me at the time of Ruud van Nistelrooy – the way he was finishing.

“I couldn’t imagine that his career would go how it went, but I was so confident in his ability to see that he was meant for bigger than Tottenham Hotspur. He has shown it. His stats are unbelievable.”

    DID YOU KNOW?

Vorm faced Kane on a regular basis on the training ground and said when asked what makes the prolific frontman special, with another all-time scoring record held with England after netting 69 goals for his country: “He is very aware – he’s not just working on his finishing, he’s also speaking with goalkeepers, or goalkeeper coaches to see how he can work out what a goalkeeper is thinking. He goes further than just the finishing part.

“For me, you can’t anticipate with him because at the last minute he can change the way he puts his foot down. He’s very aware about everything. He is the kind of finisher that can finish from the edge of the 18-yard box as easily as in the six-yard box. He is so diverse – left, right, he can head. He has it all.

“If you blindfold him, he will find the same angles because of the repetitions he did over the years. For a goalkeeper, you really need to understand that you can’t gamble, you need to react. His sharpness in front of the goal is unbelievable.”

  • WHAT NEXT FOR HARRY KANE?

Kane has continued to showcase those talents with Bayern, finding the target on 67 occasions for the Bundesliga heavyweights through 70 appearances in all competitions. He remains in the hunt for domestic and European titles this season, with the expectation being that he will soon land the medals which forever fell out of reach at Tottenham.
