Mason Mount looks 'lost' at Man Utd & is suffering from 'high stress levels' due to his massive £60m fee, claims Red Devils favourite Dimitar Berbatov as he urges ex-Chelsea star to 'step up' for Erik ten Hag

Mount has failed to impress for United since arriving from Chelsea in a £60 million ($75m) move over the summer. Though injuries disrupted his start the season, Mount has been unable to nail down a regular starting role in Erik ten Hag's midfield. Speaking to Betfair, former United striker Berbatov gave his view on Mount's situation.

Berbatov said: "We all know he [Mount] needs to step up because he hasn’t played well since joining United. So, he’s the player I want to see give more and produce more because in some of the games, it looks like he doesn’t know how to fit into that system. He looks a bit lost from time to time, but we all know the quality he possesses."

The Bulgarian also suggested that Mount's hefty price tag has done him no favours, adding: "He was bought for big money which brings big expectations, but not only that, his stress levels will be high. At this moment, he knows he needs to produce, he knows he needs to step up and show the quality that we all know he has."

United have endured an underwhelming start to the season, and an in-form Mount might have helped them. The 24-year-old has increasingly found himself on the bench in recent weeks, and has not been included in either of the last two England squads. He spent the November international break recharging in his hometown of Portsmouth.

Mount certainly has a lot to do to convince United fans that he was worth signing. However, if he can up his performances and help United recover from poor starts in the Premier League and Champions League, then his popularity will surely surge. United's first outing after the international break is a trip to Goodison Park on Sunday to face Everton.
