Mason Greenwood to be offered Lionel Messi's iconic No.10 shirt at Barcelona if he makes shock summer move from Man Utd

Barcelona are reported to be eager to buy the attacker in a permanent deal from Manchester United, and The Sunreports they are willing to give him the famous shirt number worn by eight-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi as they look to beat the competition to his signature.

Barca are among the clubs interested in signing Greenwood on a permanent basis following his performances in Spain since he joined Getafe on loan from United. He has scored five goals in 15 matches for the Madrid club, resulting in them offering a reported £40 million ($51.2m) to buy him outright, though they face competition from other clubs. United may be willing to part ways with the 22-year-old permanently after he was accused of sexual assault and domestic violence, though the charges were eventually dropped.

Donning the No.10 at the Camp Nou club would not only see Greenwood take on the iconic shirt number worn by Messi, but also the likes of Diego Maradona, Ronaldinho, Juan Roman Riquelme, Rivaldo, Hristo Stoichkov, Romario, Eusebio and even Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola.

Greenwood will likely see out the rest of the season in La Liga with Getafe before making a decision on his future. He will attempt to improve his goal record when they take on Rayo Vallecano on January 2 in the Spanish top flight.
