Marcus Rashford's Barcelona initiation song revealed as Man Utd loanee opts to impress new team-mates with rap song

Barcelona, like many clubs, require new arrivals to sing a song in front of the squad as part of their initiation. According to Catalunya Radio, Rashford stepped up and delivered a rendition of ‘Sprinter’, the UK rap track that topped the charts for 10 weeks in 2023. While it may not have been familiar to many in the dressing room, it was a bold choice that showed his personality.

‘Sprinter’ became the most-streamed UK rap song ever on Spotify, further underlining Rashford’s choice to perform it in front of the squad. Initiation songs remain a common football tradition to help new players integrate into the group. While footage has not yet emerged, his performance will no doubt have gone down as memorable inside the Barcelona camp.

Barcelona confirmed Rashford’s arrival on loan from Manchester United earlier this month. The England international is hoping for regular minutes after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford. The Catalan side also hold an option to buy the forward, though it remains to be seen if they take it up.

Rashford has had a somewhat slow start to life with Barcelona; however, in their previous clash against Valencia, the England international grabbed his first assist after setting up Raphinha. Rashford will now travel back to England for the Catalan side's massive Champions League showdown with Newcastle on Thursday at St. James' Park; the winger will likely be handed a start with Raphinha playing on the right in the absence of Lamine Yamal.
