  • Newcastle interested in Guehi
  • Reportedly valued at £70m
  • Labelled "a generational talent"
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Guehi is a wanted man, with Newcastle United launching three bids for the Crystal Palace defender so far in the transfer window. According to BBC Sport, the latest bid is in the region of £60 million ($77m). Palace have already lost Michael Olise this summer and chairman Parish isn't ready to part ways with Guehi unless the club receive "superstar money" for the England international.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Palace enjoyed a brilliant ending to last season following Oliver Glasner's arrival in February. The Eagles won 19 points out of a possible 21 to finish the campaign, and there was hope that 2024-25 would bring about yet more success. But the potential departure of Guehi - to follow that of Olise to Bayern Munich - threatens to hurt the mood at Selhurst Park.

  • WHAT PARISH SAID

Thankfully for Palace supporters, Parish is driving a hard bargain in his attempts to keep Guehi in south London.

"Nobody has got to the valuation yet. If you want a superstar player you need to pay superstar money," Parish told Sky Sports' Rob Dorsett.

"It's not near the point where we have to make a decision. We love having him and would love to keep him. If someone else wants to have him they need to make it really difficult for us. He's a generational talent."

    WHAT NEXT?

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle, or another club, meets Palace's valuation of the 24-year-old, which according to BBC Sport is close to £70m ($90m). The former Chelsea defender has just under two years left on his contract and the Eagles will be keen to avoid seeing him leave on a free transfer.
