Man Utd set to launch transfer bid for NWSL star Denise O'Sullivan as she's set to snub new contract at North Carolina Courage

O'Sullivan is set to become a free agent when the NWSL season concludes in November, making her available for a free transfer in January. However, according to Mail Sport, United are not willing to wait until she hits free agency and are poised to make a bid for the midfielder during the upcoming summer transfer window.

O'Sullivan, who is known to be a lifelong Manchester United supporter, has been offered a contract extension by the North Carolina Courage. But she has so far declined to commit her future to the club as she harbours interest in joining the Manchester club.

With over 100 caps for the Republic of Ireland national team, O'Sullivan would bring a wealth of experience to United’s midfield. During her tenure at North Carolina Courage, she has secured two NWSL Championships, two Challenge Cups and three NWSL Shields.

She has previous experience in the Women's Super League, having had a loan spell with Brighton in 2020. This move was facilitated to ensure her availability for Ireland’s rescheduled Euro 2022 qualifiers, as extensive travel between the U.S. and Europe would have subjected her to prolonged quarantine periods.

United are fifth in the WSL, 17 points behind leaders Manchester City, which has forced the leadership to contemplate making key signings to reinforce the squad ahead of the next campaign. Should the bid materialize, O'Sullivan could potentially become a key asset for the club, contributing her skills and expertise to enhance their midfield capabilities.
