Why Man Utd don't want to include option to buy in Jadon Sancho's imminent Borussia Dortmund loan return - explained

Manchester United's Sancho is widely expected to complete his return to Dortmund in the coming days after a loan deal was agreed by the two clubs. Since the winger moved to United in 2021 he has flattered to deceive and has been exiled by manager Erik ten Hag in recent months after an outburst on social media. It is hoped Sancho's return to Germany will help him rediscover the form which first attracted the interest of United.

United wish to make the deal a straight loan, without any option for Dortmund to make the move permanent. According to Fabrizio Romano, this decision has been made because the club believe his current transfer value is far below what they could sell the player for next summer, should he impress at Dortmund and bump up his price tag.

Sancho made a measly three appearances for United this season and accumulated just 76 minutes across the games. With Sancho and ten Hag's relationship broken, a January departure had become a necessity for both parties.

Sancho returns to the club where he made his name on the European stage and will have lots of work to do to put himself alongside the stars once again. They return to Bundesliga action next weekend against Darmstadt.
