  • Mainoo is learning Spanish
  • Explains reason for celebration
  • Chance of starting at the Euros
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Mainoo's celebration alongside Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund was one of the high moments in a turgid season for Manchester United as they caught a glance at what the future could hold if their bright talents fulfil their potential. United fans will also be relieved to hear that Mainoo started learning Spanish as a distraction during his injury layoff, rather than because of any dreams of a switch to Real Madrid or Barcelona. The United midfielder has shot to the top of the pecking order at Old Trafford and has the chance to win his first piece of silverware on Saturday afternoon in the FA Cup final.

    WHAT MAINOO SAID

Speaking to The Telegraph, Mainoo revealed he started learning Spanish after suffering an injury in pre-season. He said: "I started Spanish lessons on Zoom just to pass the time a bit. It’s tough to keep doing them now with the schedule being so busy. Now it’s into summer I’ll try to pick it up again because I enjoyed it."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mainoo has become integral to United and looks set to be a mainstay in the Red Devils' midfield for years to come. The 18-year-old is seen as key to the future alongside other hotly-tipped youngsters Garnacho and Hojlund. Mainoo explained how he has gelled with the other young players and how their joint celebration came about.

He said: "I always ask Garna[cho] before the game what’s the celebration gonna be if he scores and he said he wasn’t gonna tell me. He was like, ‘I’m not telling you! I’m not telling you!’ So I’m like, ‘Okay’. But I saw him jump up on the advertising board when he scored and me and Rasmus just jumped up there with him. It was a nice picture.

“All of us young guys – Amad [Diallo] as well – we have a lot of fun together and we’ve definitely grown close this season.”
