  • Fans brand the champions 'corrupt' amid FFP case
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

City's Premier League dominance continued as they scooped up yet another title after beating West Ham 3-1 on Sunday, becoming the first team to lift the trophy four years on the bounce. However, soon after their triumph was confirmed, many supporters of other teams tore into Pep Guardiola's side and said the "elephant in the room" is that the Premier League has charged them with 115 breaches of its financial rules - something that is yet to be resolved.

    WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

On X, formerly Twitter, @AFCAMDEN tweeted: "No matter how many titles City win, and how much success they have, they will never have what they truly crave, and that is respect. And that’s because everyone knows what they really are, and that is cheats."

Manchester United fan @JTaylor_187 commented: "They have pulled your league's pants down by committing 115 charges and you lot are celebrating it as if it’s some achievement to be celebrated? Corrupt. Doped. Cheats. Will never be respected! #115Charges."

Fellow Red Devils supporter @nathan_krogh7 wrote: "The fact no one is really astonished or amazed at City wining four in a row tells you everything. The major elephant in the room, of the 115 charges will always make them the little brother on steroids to United’s genuine success and dominance. #PremierLeague #115Charges."

Finally, @RyanPboro put: "115 charges trending within 2 minutes to Man City's game ending. Well done Twitter (X)," and @hannahbvn added: "Pep Guardiola acting surprised about winning the league when he’s got about 50 spare players and 115 charges to his name."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

City continue to sweep all competition aside with yet another Premier League triumph. However, to many, their success has an asterisk next to it as it's been more than 15 months since they were hit with those charges for alleged financial irregularity - something they strongly deny. It may be more than a year before any verdict in the case but many fans want answers now, as they allege City have cheated their way to silverware.

    WHAT NEXT?

It is not yet known when City will learn their fate but reports suggest a hearing date is in place for the autumn of 2024 and a decision could happen in the summer of 2025 - which is still more than a year away. Until that is resolved, fans will likely continue to try and diminish the achievements of Guardiola's men.
