The 40-year-old former England international has, just five games into the 2023-24 campaign, announced that he is hanging up his gloves once more. That decision has come as a surprise to many, with Foster having penned a 12-month contract on the back of helping the Dragons to promotion back into the Football League last season.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Foster has decided to call it a day after struggling for form early on this term, but he will always be fondly remembered at Wrexham. He only made 12 appearances for Wrexham, but one of those saw him save a stoppage-time penalty against National League promotion rivals Notts County. His presence around the Welsh club is credited with helping to raise spirits after a serious show of intent from Reynolds and fellow co-owner Rob McElhenney.

  • WHAT THEY SAID

Deadpool star Reynolds, who struck up quite the bond with Foster during his short time at Wrexham, has posted on Twitter: “He built memories I’ll never let go of for as long as I live. I love this guy. Thank you for everything, Ben.”

  • WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Foster had a spell on loan at Wrexham early in his career before going on to represent the likes of Manchester United, Birmingham, West Brom and Watford while also earning eight senior caps for his country.
