  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have committed to new contracts, but additions are required following a couple of quiet windows under head coach Arne Slot. Liverpool are considered to be in need of more firepower, as they lean heavily on Egyptian superstar Salah.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

There has been talk of England captain Kane returning to his homeland once a first major trophy of his career has been captured at Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, with the 31-year-old potentially looking to chase down Alan Shearer’s all-time goal record in the Premier League.

    WHAT ALLY MCCOIST SAID

Ally McCoist has told talkSPORT of why a deal there would make sense: "I look at Liverpool just now and they could probably still do with an out-and-out number nine, proper goalscorer. [Luis] Diaz has been brilliant, Salah has been absolutely out of this world and they've got midfielders chipping in.

“I don't see it happening, but see, if Harry Kane won the Bundesliga, which he will do, and then fancy if he would come back to England? I just think, for Liverpool, that would be a dream move for them.”

McCoist added on the need for Liverpool to bolster their ranks while on top: “I think the secret for Liverpool now is to do what Manchester City arguably haven't done, is to add to your team in a position of strength. When you're in a position of strength, get yourself stronger.”

    WHAT NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL?

Salah has hit 28 league goals this season, while Diaz has 12, but nobody else is into double figures. Cody Gakpo has reached nine efforts, but strikers Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez have registered just six and five Premier League goals respectively this season.
