Lionesses boss Sarina Wiegman offers promising update on Mary Earps after Man Utd goalkeeper pulls out of squad with hip injury

Earps had made her 50th appearance for England against France, however, within the opening 10 minutes she was replaced by Hannah Hampton after being unable to continue due to the pain. After being assessed by the medical team, the Manchester United star pulled out of Wiegman's squad for their final clash of the season.

Speaking to the media, Wiegman said: "Everyone who has travelled is fit. Everyone trained and everyone worked off the pitch after training so that's good. Mary Earps left so she can't play tomorrow but it is not too big an injury so we expect her to be back next camp."

On Hampton replacing Earps, she added: "I have said all the time we are in a fortunate position that we have goalkeepers who are really good. Hannah is good on the line but of course her passing out is really good and we expect more of that tomorrow."

Earps has been the number one in between the post for the Lionesses for the last few years and was also awarded the Golden Glove during the 2023 Women's World Cup. However, over the last few months, the 31-year-old has faced competition for her spot from the likes of Hampton and Khiara Keating.

The Manchester United keeper will now miss England's clash against France at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard on Tuesday, June 4 and Hampton is set to take her place in goal. Earps will be hoping to return to full fitness over the next month with England only returning to action on July 12 against the Republic of Ireland.
