  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The 25-year-old forward, who has been absent from two previous Les Bleus call-ups, is set to rejoin the national team. Mbappe's previous decisions to withdraw from international duty sparked a major controversy, particularly within the French media, as they were critical of the former Paris Saint-Germain star after he was seen partying in Sweden while France were competing in international matches.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

French journalist Romain Molina previously claimed that Mbappe had even considered stepping away from international football, following the backlash he received for skipping national team duties. However, the Real Madrid forward later denied these reports, insisting that he remained committed to representing France.

“There is nothing more important than the national team!" he said. "However, in September, I told the coach that I was not in the best condition. I changed clubs and had no days off. He insisted that I go on vacation."

He added: “In October, I was injured, and in November, I can’t say anything—that was his decision. I wanted to play for France, but the coach didn’t call me. I’m sorry, I can’t tell you why. If he wants, he can say. But I can’t.”

  • WHAT DESCHAMPS SAID

When asked whether Mbappe would feature in the upcoming squad, Deschamps said: "Of course, he will be there. Why wouldn’t he be?"

Pressed further about the forward’s previous absences, Deschamps explained that there were specific reasons for those decisions but assured that if Mbappé remains fit, he will be included.

“Yes, for very specific reasons," the manager said. "But he will be there, if nothing happens to him between now and then. He is very attached to the French team, even if he has had a complicated personal period. He has found all his means and, inevitably, it shows in his game, and in his head too.”
