    THE BIGGER PICTURE

It may seem like Alvarez is an unrealistic signing for Atletico, who are not notorious for spending big in the market. But they have the advantage of knowing that Alvarez wants to leave the Premier League champions, rather than play second fiddle to Erling Haaland.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Alvarez still made 52 appearances in all competitions last term, although a significant number were from the bench. He did have a run while Haaland was injured during the campaign, and by the time Pep Guardiola's side were crowned champions, he had netted 19 times and tallied 13 assists.

WHAT NEXT FOR ALVAREZ AND ATLETI?

After what will likely be a short break, Alvarez is due to check in with Manchester City for pre-season. Reports suggest it will take around £70 million (€83.4m/$91.2m) for the English side to consider parting ways with the 24-year-old.
