Bellingham rebuilding fitness after shoulder surgery

Bellingham, who confirmed at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup that he would be going under the knife, had been nursing a shoulder complaint since 2023 - during his first season at Santiago Bernabeu - which forced him to wear uncomfortable strapping and play through pain. The hope is that a long-standing ailment is now a thing of the past, with match sharpness being rebuilt.

The 22-year-old is always prepared to put his body on the line, with there no challenge that he will back down from. That mindset is to be applauded, but it can get Bellingham into trouble at times - be that physical knocks or disciplinary issues as he struggles to bite his tongue in the heat of competition. Those in Madrid are eager to have him at their disposal as often as possible.

  • Be like LeBron: Bellingham urged to copy NBA GOAT

Bellingham has been urged to look at how basketball GOAT LeBron goes about his business, with the LA Lakers superstar having emulated five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo by competing at an elite level in his chosen sport at 40 years of age. ‘King James’ has made a point of looking after his body, with big money being spent on ensuring that he is ready for action as often as possible.

Scott, who is married to CBS Sports presenter Kate Scott and was the former trainer of boxing heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder, has told CanadaCasino of what Bellingham needs to do in order to remain in peak condition: "Rest, to me, is just as important, if not more important, than working out, but it's very difficult to do. I'm explaining this from a fighting background, but it applies to all athletes across different sports. It's hard to rest because we're competitive; we got to where we are by working hard, and that's true. But when you're competing at your highest level, you're loading your body, which leads to quicker wear and tear. If you're dealing with wear and tear and not resting, and you're still working on top of an injury, it compounds the problem.

"LeBron James spends $3 million per year on his recovery alone. That's the most impressive thing about him because I never see LeBron look his age in his game. I might see his age in his hairline, but not in his performance. I believe this comes from his recovery. He invests in his body with rest and recovery. You see so many athletes with luxurious possessions, but when you look at their personal lives, are they investing in recovery?"

Advice for Ronaldo: How to cope with pressure

Scott also believes that he could offer important words of wisdom to Portuguese superstar Ronaldo if CR7 ever wanted even more advice, with the evergreen frontman always looking to master the art of performing under pressure.

Scott added: "I would enjoy just sitting down with Ronaldo and speaking on competing, adding something to his mental attributes. It can be just sitting down, dialoguing about something we have in common. And what we share in common is basically competing. These guys know what it feels like to go out and compete in front of thousands and thousands of people, hundreds of thousands of people. And it's the pressure that comes with that. And I'm someone that understands no matter what type of poker face they have, no matter how cool they play it, we could talk about these things that they're dealing with."

  • Ronaldo continues to rewrite the history books

Ronaldo has had no issue coping with expectation over the course of his historic career, with the record books being rewritten on a regular basis. He is still going strong at Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr - with a new two-year contract being committed to in the Middle East alongside reaching 100 goals in all competitions - and is expected to grace next summer’s World Cup finals with Portugal after earning 223 caps for his country.
