Jose Mourinho ‘open’ to Nottingham Forest job as ex-Chelsea & Man Utd boss has ‘one eye on return to the Premier League’

The self-anointed ‘Special One’ claimed three top-flight titles in England across his two spells with Chelsea. He won the League Cup and Europa League with Manchester United, before enduring a tough time with Tottenham.

Mourinho, who is 62 years of age, is now in Turkey with Fenerbahce. He has cut a frustrated figure at times, with it being suggested on a regular basis that he could be lured elsewhere by the right project.

There has been talk of Nuno Espirito Santo leaving his role at Forest, having admitted to a breakdown in his working relationship with Reds owner Evangelos Marinakis, and Mourinho’s name has been thrown into the mix.

Former Manchester United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains well-connected within the game, believes Mourinho would be willing to listen to Forest if an approach were to be made.

He told Football Insider: “I read that Forest might look at Jose Mourinho. I think he would be open to taking that job, because he’s always got one eye on a return to the Premier League, it’s something he’s been interested in for a while.

“He rarely spends more than two or three years at any club, so he might be looking to leave Turkey already if the opportunity comes up.

“Everybody knows what he’s like, he likes to be the centre of attention. That might be a good fit for Forest with all the talk around them at the moment.

“Replacing Nuno would be a controversial move, so who better to deal with that controversy? I certainly think it’s something he would be interested in should he be offered the chance.”

Forest are hoping to resolve any issues between Nuno, Marinakis and global head of football Edu, while Mourinho - who has also been linked with Rangers and West Ham of late - has previously stated that he will be honouring a contract in Istanbul that is due to expire in 2026.
