Joe Willock's £200k Porsche runs out of petrol on roundabout as Newcastle star filmed making 'otherwise I'm f*cking pushing it' claim during hilarious gaffe

  • Willock stranded: 199mph car unable to move

Willock is reported to be on £80,000-a-week at St James' Park, but even that pay packet is not enough to ensure that he always has a full tank. The 26-year-old came agonisingly close to reaching a station before being left stranded. Wherever he was going or coming from, he was sporting a Magpies training top at the time.

Willock’s wheels are capable of reaching 199mph, but he was unable to move at all after running out of gas. In a bid to get going again, the Newcastle playmaker had to refill part of the fuel tank himself using a green can. He was unable to sail under the radar when suffering an unfortunate faux pas, with videos of his struggles being uploaded online.

One of those sees a member of the public say: "Should get you to the garage." Willock quips back with: "Yeah, hopefully, otherwise I’m f*cking pushing it." Thanks were offered to those that offered assistance, but fans on social media saw the funny side. One posted: "All the money and running this car on empty!"

Car troubles add to Willock's issues on the field

Willock’s Porsche 911 GT3 was travelling through Cowgate in Newcastle. It is not the first time this year that a Newcastle player has been involved in a vehicle breakdown. Earlier in 2025, England international Dan Burn was spotted helping to push a stranded motorist through the city. Another social media follower chipped in with: "I was expecting Dan Burn to be pushing his car down the street, and I am mildly disappointed."

Willock’s car mishap has added to the troubles that he has been enduring this season. A man signed from Arsenal on a permanent basis for £25 million ($33m) in the summer of 2021, following a productive loan spell, has been restricted to just 115 minutes of game time and one start this season.

  • Willock set challenge amid lack of game time

Eddie Howe has looked to rotate his side while competing on multiple fronts, with Champions League action back on the agenda for 2025-26, but Willock has struggled to get a look in. The only time that he made a starting XI was in a 0-0 draw with Bournemouth on September 21, with just over an hour being played in that contest.

Magpies boss Howe has said when asked about supposedly "despondent" Willock: "It would be the same of any player in his position. He needs to train well, fundamentally. Whenever a player is not playing as much as they want, they still have a window to impress me every day. And of course, when they play, when they get on the pitch, they’ve got to perform and grab every opportunity that comes their way to then get more minutes."

Warm-weather training: Newcastle stars head to Dubai

Willock is doing his best to stay in and shape and catch the eye of Howe. He is one of several Newcastle players to have jetted out to Dubai for some warm-weather training during the latest international break. He has been joined on that trip by the likes of Kieran Trippier, Jamaal Lascelles and Will Osula - with the Magpies currently having 10 players away with their respective nations.

Howe has previously said regarding the benefits of such excursions: "The idea of a warm-weather training camp is the different environment, something fresh to stimulate the players and hopefully we’re going to come back in a good place and ready to work."

Willock and Co will want to head back to England feeling refreshed and raring to go again. Newcastle, who sit 11th in the Premier League table after picking up nine points from seven games this season, will return to action on October 18 when taking in a long trip to Brighton.
