  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Hermoso became the centre of a major controversy at the 2023 World Cup when then-Spanish FA president Rubiales kissed her on the lips following Spain's win over England in the final. Hermoso insisted that the kiss was not consensual, leading to widespread calls for Rubiales to resign from his post. He initially ignored those requests but eventually stepped down, saying: "It is evident that I will not be able to return to my position."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Unfortunately, Hermoso has been subjected to vile abuse since the incident in August 2023. The 34-year-old, who plays for Mexican side Tigres, has now taken action by sharing an audio message that she received on Instagram.

  • WHAT WAS SAID

Per Spanish outlet Marca, the following message is heard: "Do you have a penis? I don't understand. I assume so because of the tattoos on your arm, which make you look like my father. You're lifting the World Cup as if it were a piece of sausage... Are you stupid or are you retarded? I want you to explain it to me. A bald guy like Rubiales gives me a kiss and I turn gay just so he can bury me in money, and money comes, and money comes... And on top of that you complain. You're just stupid. That's the problem you have, you're retarded."
