Inter Miami star explains ‘pressure’ of playing alongside Lionel Messi – with Argentine GOAT forcing MLS team-mates to ‘raise level’

Allende finds himself working with an iconic countryman in the United States after sealing a loan transfer from Celta Vigo. He has been figuring for the Herons in their pre-season campaign, with minutes seen against Club America and Universitario.

The 25-year-old is living the dream after linking up with eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi and his fellow Barcelona legends Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba at Chase Stadium. He is, however, aware of the added expectation that he is now working under.

Allende has told reporters of being a colleague of Messi and Co: “I always watched Messi on TV and now being his team-mate is something incredible, just like the other three [Suarez, Alba and Busquets]. It’s an honour and an immense joy, but it’s also a lot of pressure, they are winning players and we have to raise our level.”

Several players on Inter Miami’s books have spoken of the standards that Messi sets – even in training – and the collective desire not to let him down. Javier Mascherano’s side, with the reigning MVP at their disposal, are readying themselves for another shot at MLS Cup glory in 2025.
