    THE EXPLANATION

Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri states that Barcelona's Dani Olmo was actually Guardiola's priority but that move would have been 'long, complex, and bitter'. As a result, Cherki has now become Guardiola's 'new priority', partly as he will cost less and is a more gettable target.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

The report adds that Lyon want to sell Cherki this summer, rather than losing him for free in 2026. He is said to cost around €40 million (£33.7m) and the right winger, who can also play on the left and as an attacking midfielder, is expected to sign a long-term deal at the Etihad.

Cherki, who scored 12 goals and added 20 assists in all competitions for Lyon this season, could even sign for City before they start their Club World Cup campaign later this month.
