Harry Kane and his Bayern team-mates closed the gap to just one point at the top of the table, with Thomas Tuchel's side pulling ahead through 19-year-old Aleksandar Pavlovic in the 22nd minute. Alphonso Davies doubled the lead just before half-time with a long-range effort - a goal which arrives just days after the left-back was left out of the 1-0 win against Union Berlin.
Augsburg put the pressure on after the break as their captain Ermedin Demirovic glanced his header past Manuel Neuer in the Bayern goal, but Kane restored the two-goal lead shortly after with an effort from point-blank range - his 23rd of the season in the league. It wasn't plain sailing for the reigning champions from there, however, with Augsburg awarded a penalty late on courtesy of a foul by Neuer. The German shot-stopper made up for his error by saving the spot-kick, although the hosts were given a second chance from the spot, courtesy of a fourth correct call by VAR, shortly after, which Demirovic struck into the net for 3-2.
