Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, the 18-year-old centre-back said that Yamal’s talent was evident long before his senior debut and that his success comes down to years of unseen hard work and resilience.
“When I arrived, Lamine was already at Barca. From a young age, you could see he was going to make it. I’m very happy about everything he’s been through, which hasn’t been easy,” the defender said. "People think it's easy to get there, but you don't see the work that goes into it. I'm very happy for him."
He also addressed the criticism surrounding Yamal, stressing the teenager’s ability to remain unfazed by outside noise.
"Being so good and having so many people against him, there are always people who say things to discourage him, but he's tough. He doesn't have to play those games; he has to keep doing what he does: playing and being a good person."
