Gareth Southgate has a new job a month after resigning as England manager following Euro 2024 heartbreak

Southgate led England to their second straight European Championship final but after the Three Lions suffered the same fate as they did in 2021, the 53-year-old decided to step down from his post. The former Three Lions boss has now decided to become a UEFA technical observer, per Henry Winter.

Technical observers are responsible for analysing games from a coaching standpoint and creating comprehensive reports that include statistical and video analysis. To aid in their observations, they have access to a vast quantity of data, several camera angles, and cutting-edge visualisation tools. In addition, the task involves identifying patterns in football play, with the results providing coaches and coach educators with a more comprehensive view of the game.

At Euro 2024, a number of well-known and former managers were hired as technical observers. These included Frank de Boer, Avram Grant, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Aitor Karanka, Rafa Benitez, and Fabio Capello. The group of technical observers were also charged with selecting the Player of the Match for each game and coming together to decide the Team, Player and Young Player and Goals of the Tournament.

With the 53-year-old having taken up the duties of UEFA technical observer, it is now likely that Southgate will not return to a managerial position at least until the end of the summer. The season away from the hectic schedule of a manager will likely give him the time to ponder what the future holds for himself.
