    THE BIGGER PICTURE

After selling last season's Serie A top scorer Mateo Retegui to Al-Qadsiah for €80m (£68m/$92m), Atalanta are seeking a new star striker. They considered Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta, who has one year left on his contract, but failed to agree on a fee. CEO Luca Percassi travelled to London to negotiate with Fulham for  Muniz, though Atalanta face strong competition from Leeds United, who are also keen on the striker.

Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has refused to train as he is on strike as he pushes to move to Inter, who have seen their efforts to sign him knocked back by the Bergamo club.
