  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Reports recently emerged suggesting that Ali Dursun had initiated preliminary inquiries with Saudi clubs. These supposed conversations were said to cover various aspects, including lifestyle and cultural factors but stopped short of negotiating a formal contract.

    WHAT ALI DURSUN SAID

However, Dursun vehemently denied these claims in an interview with De Telegraaf.

“Talks in Saudi Arabia? Total nonsense,” Dursun said. “It distracts from Frenkie’s real ambition. He only wants one thing: to be fit and shine longer at the club he loves and where he feels at home.”

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

De Jong is currently under contract with Barcelona until 2026, but discussions regarding an extension have yet to materialise. While both De Jong and the club reportedly enjoy a positive relationship, Dursun hinted at the possibility of staying at the Blaugrana for the long term.

“Who knows, we might stay connected for longer,” Dursun said, reflecting optimism but not committing to any formal talks regarding an extension.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Barcelona, however, appear to be adopting a more assertive approach to address the midfielder’s contractual situation. According to sources, the club's leadership, including sporting director Deco and President Joan Laporta, plans to push for a contract renewal this summer. If De Jong refuses to commit, the club may take drastic measures, including sidelining him from Hansi Flick’s plans to force an exit.

    WHAT NEXT FOR DE JONG?

Barcelona’s ongoing financial struggles and the looming risk of losing De Jong without a transfer fee underscore the urgency for resolution. Should De Jong decide to see out his contract, the club could face further challenges in balancing their books. While his agent’s statement has temporarily quelled rumours of a move to Saudi Arabia, the unresolved contract situation leaves plenty of room for speculation.
