Federico Bernardeschi's turned it around: Ex-Juventus star in talks over new Toronto FC contract

Italian publication Calciomercato claims Toronto have been happy with the 30-year-old's recent performances, after scoring twice and bagging three assists in his last four matches. Now, the former Juventus winger looks set for a new deal, with his current terms expiring in 2026.

Bernardeschi has had a mixed spell at Toronto since swapping Juventus for the MLS side in 2022. The ex-Italian international scored eight goals in 14 games in his first season but just five in 33 appearances in 2023. After a slow start to this campaign, the former Fiorentina man may be rewarded with a new contract off the back of his strong form.

The winger, who can also play as an attacking midfielder, has chalked up 39 caps for Italy and scored six goals in the process. In his career, he has scored 63 goals in 374 appearances, the majority of which came in Serie A.

Bernardeschi could feature for Toronto in their upcoming MLS clash at home to New York City on Saturday. They currently sit third in the Eastern Conference after 11 matches, behind Cincinnati and leaders Inter Miami.
