    WHAT HAPPENED?

Manchester United were left humiliated at Old Trafford on Sunday after Liverpool turned up in style and beat the Red Devils 3-0 thanks to a brace from Luis Diaz and a Mohamed Salah strike. United conceded quick goals in the first half due to mistakes by Casemiro and then failed to grow into the game despite changes and Salah struck the final blow to give Arne Slot his first win at Old Trafford.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Red Devils and Ten Hag, specifically, have received a lot of criticism for their lack of a proper style, despite the Dutchman entering his third year with United. Regardless, Ten Hag believes that Manchester United will be able to battle their rivals until the end of the season and 'go for trophies'.

    WHAT TEN HAG SAID

Speaking to Sky Sports, Ten Hag said: "We have many games to play and I know where we will be in the end of the season. Many games, many weeks, and we will go for trophies. I don’t have the feeling that we are in the same pattern. It was sometimes too open. I have seen good things but I don’t want to talk about them after a 3-0 defeat at Liverpool. ... We have to freshen up the dressing room. Today, first half for Matthijs de Light, first start for Joshua Zirkzee. We will catch up and we will come back."

  • WHAT NEXT FOR MAN UTD?

Ten Hag will have some more time to work on his side over the next two weeks with club football pausing for the international break. United will next be in action when they take on Southampton on September 14.
