'Several enquiries' made into Mohamed Al-Fayed’s time as Fulham owner amid sexual assault allegations

Several women have come forward after a BBC documentary accused Al-Fayed of sexual misconduct during their time working at London department store Harrods, which he owned. A group has been established to seek compensation over the allegations, with Al-Fayed accused of rape and other forms of sexual assault. Lawyers have said that more than 100 women had come forward since the BBC documentary.

The development comes after a former Fulham women's team manager revealed that precautions were in place to 'protect' female players from Al-Fayed during his time at the club. It was claimed that female players were 'not allowed to be left alone' with Al-Fayed due to his apparent liking for 'young blonde girls'.

The Met has revealed that 19 women made allegations of offences by Fayed, ranging from 1979 to 2013, before his death last year at the age of 94. No further action was taken by the Crown Prosecution Service.

A spokesman for Justice for Harrods Survivors told The Telegraph: "The group of barristers representing 37 of Fayed’s victims, confirmed that several of the new enquiries received since last week’s press conference relate to Fulham Football Club under the period of Fayed’s ownership.”

Fulham urged anyone affected to contact their safeguarding team or the Metropolitan police. A spokesman said: “We remain in the process of establishing whether anyone at the club is or has been affected by the reports concerning Mr Al Fayed.” The FA also confirmed they will remain in contact with Fulham over the matter.
