'Not a great goalkeeper' - Emi Martinez savaged by PSG legend who says Aston Villa stopper is 'a bit annoying with his provocations' ahead of Champions League tie

Martinez is all set to be in action for Aston Villa in the Champions League quarter-final against newly-crowned Ligue 1 champions PSG this week, and ahead of the high-octane clash in Paris, former France international Lama has taken a dig at the Argentine goalkeeper.

Speaking to RMC Sport, the 61-year-old former West Ham custodian said: "He’s a bit annoying with his provocations. I don’t like that. But otherwise, he’s still a good goalkeeper, nothing more. He’s not a great goalkeeper. He’s a good goalkeeper who has good spells, who had his spell at the 2022 World Cup. He’s not THE great goalkeeper."

Martinez's relationship with the nation of France soured after the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar. After helping his country lift the trophy in the penalty shootout, the custodian led the celebrations in the Argentina dressing room with a chant calling for "a minute of silence" for Kylian Mbappe.

After facing PSG on Wednesday in the French capital, Unai Emery's side will be back in action in the Premier League on April 12 as they take on Southampton.
