Spanish goalkeeper De Gea once played alongside Antony at Old Trafford. They spent a season together in England during the 2022-23 campaign - meaning that they lined up against one another on a regular basis in training.

De Gea was allowed to leave Manchester as a free agent in the summer of 2023, while Antony was loaned out to Real Betis in the winter transfer window of 2025 after struggling for a spark across 96 appearances for the Red Devils that delivered just 12 goals.

He has already found the target on six occasions for Betis, with his latest effort crashed into the top corner with his right foot during a Conference League semi-final clash with De Gea and Fiorentina.

De Gea was left flapping at fresh air as the ball fizzed past him, with the Spaniard shocked to see a man he knows well make such good contact with a boot that is usually reserved for standing on. De Gea told Movistar Plus: “I have trained 1000 times with Antony and he has never scored a goal with his right foot.”

Antony’s spectacular strike helped Betis to a 2-1 victory on home soil. They will now head to Italy for the return leg of a heavyweight last-four showdown next Thursday, with De Gea hoping to keep a clean sheet in that contest that will aid Fiorentina’s efforts to reach another European final.
