Dani Carvajal accused of 'making a scene' with Lamine Yamal confrontation after El Clasico as Frenkie de Jong slams Real Madrid for 'exaggerated' anger towards Barcelona team-mate

The season's first El Clasico ended on a chaotic note as players from both sides confronted each other at full-time, with Barcelona wonderkid Yamal at the centre of the controversy. At one point, Yamal and Madrid full-back Carvajal were spotted exchanging words near the centre circle. The veteran Spanish defender allegedly told Yamal: "You speak too much. Speak now." Yamal then attempted to confront his Spain team-mate but was ushered away by his Barca colleagues. 

The match itself also witnessed a lot of drama. It was a much-needed win for Madrid, who had lost all of their outings against Barca in the 2024-25 season. Mbappe and Bellingham were on target, while Fermin Lopez scored Barcelona's only goal from Marcus Rashford's assist. Mbappe also saw a penalty saved by Courtois, with Real mustering 21 shots overall compared to Barca's 13.

Speaking about the ugly scenes at full time on the Santiago Bernabeu pitch, Barcelona midfield star De Jong said: "I didn't see what happened. I was on the bench and saw a lot of people. When the referee blew his whistle, Real Madrid players went after Lamine. It's a bit exaggerated. You'd have to ask them. In the first half, we weren't sharp with the ball. Madrid hurt with their players up front. In the second half, we lacked the ability to create danger and clear chances. If Carvajal wanted to speak with Lamine, call him or text him. You're team-mates, you know each other. Why do you have to make a scene on the pitch?"

Just days before El Clasico, Yamal had fuelled a controversy when saying of Real on Twitch: “Yes, of course, they steal, they complain…" In response, Llanos, a well-known Madrid supporter, immediately pushed back, asking the youngster, "Real Madrid steals?", to which Yamal added, "Well, let’s see, let’s see".

Marca later reported that the Barcelona star's comments on a public forum did not go down well with the Madrid squad and that Carvajal was planning to challenge the youngster over his words at the Bernabeu.

Madrid boss Alonso was also asked to comment on Yamal's words, although the Spaniard avoided making a statement as he told reporters: "I’m not going to get into that. There are a lot of statements coming from people in Barcelona, and I can’t comment on all of them. For us, what matters is on the grass, what happens on the field."

A chaotic end to the contest saw Barcelona reduced to 10 men after Pedri was shown a second yellow card of the match for lunging in on Aurelien Tchouameni and given his marching orders. As the star midfielder walked off the pitch, tempers flared and players from both teams got involved in an altercation. England star Bellingham, who was substituted a few minutes before Pedri's sending off, was among those involved in heated discussions but was soon guided away from the scene, although Vinicius Junior very much remained part of the fight in a crowded technical area. 

The match officials somehow separated the players and flashed more yellow cards at Alejandro Balde and Madrid's back-up goalkeeper Andriy Lunin. Pedri's suspension will come as a blow for Barcelona, who next face Elche in La Liga on November 2, although Hansi Flick will be back on the bench after serving his suspension on Sunday. Madrid will host Valencia in their next La Liga game on November 1.
