    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Hierro's move to the Saudi club will see him reunite with Ronaldo. Hierro spent 14 years at Madrid as a player before leaving for Qatari club Al-Rayyan in 2003. After his retirement from playing, he joined the Spanish giants as an assistant coach during Ronaldo's successful spell at the club.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Hierro joined Mexican side Chivas as sporting director in October 2022 and will take up the same role at the Riyadh club. The Liga MX side have not been able to land a trophy since the former Bolton player's arrival, though they reached the Clausura final in 2023.
