The Portuguese superstar finished 2023 as the top goalscorer in the world for club and country - beating the likes of Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland - <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/cristiano-ronaldo-al-nassr-every-performance-graded-saudi-pro-league-2023-24/blt9a0cc37f66036c82" target="_blank">as he netted for the 54th time in Al-Nassr's 4-1 win over Al-Taawoun</a>. Mbappe and Kane have scored 52 goals each for club and country while Manchester City goal machine Haaland ended the year with 50 goals in total.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The 38-year-old is also leading the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/saudi-pro-league-top-scorers-2023-24/bltbf87fb6b46ca717c#cs585c6939ed0d36f2" target="_blank">Saudi Pro League Golden Boot race</a> having already scored 20 goals in 19 appearances this term. He has also provided nine assists. Thanks to Ronaldo's stellar form, Al-Nassr currently find themselves second in the league, seven points behind leaders Al-Hilal.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

While the Portuguese international scored more than 50 goals in 2023, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/lionel-messi-cristiano-ronaldo-on-the-pitch-match-official-reveals-key-difference-superstars/blt89393a9eb2205b10" target="_blank">his nemesis Lionel Messi </a>has managed to score just 28 times in 44 appearances. Out of those 28 goals, 11 were for MLS side Inter Miami whom he joined in the summer.
