  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Columbus Crew have reportedly acquired Hungary international Daniel Gazdag from the Philadelphia Union in a cash trade deal. The 29-year-old's deal will be part of MLS' Cash for Players trade mechanism that was implemented ahead of the 2025 season.

The Union already dealt U.S. international Jack McGlynn to the Houston Dynamo earlier this season in a similar manner, sending the 21-year-old for a reported $2M. The fee for Gazdag's move has yet to be announced.

The Hungarian midfielder has been one of MLS' most consistent performers in recent years since joining the league in 2021, scoring at least 14 goals across the last three seasons. He has 29 caps with his national team.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Since star forward Cucho Hernandez departed the Crew for La Liga side Real Betis this past January, Nancy's side has had a gaping hole in their attack - but they found their man with Gazdag, it appears. The Hungarian attacking midfielder will remain a DP with the Crew, joining the ranks of Diego Rossi and Darlington Nagbe with the club under that roster allocation.

Across 125 MLS appearances, he has scored 59 goals.

Columbus is one of two teams, alongside Lionel Messi's Inter Miami, to remain unbeaten through Matchday 7 of the MLS season.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Gazdag has scored four international goals for his country, and was a part of their EURO 2024 roster last summer.
