Club America edged the Columbus Crew in a 5-4 win in penalties (1-1 FT) to secure the Liga MX's side's first-ever Campeones Cup in the 2024 edition of the tournament.
It is the fifth trophy lifted by André Jardine's club in the past 15 months, extending an era of dominance for the Mexico City-based club.
After a cagey first half, Víctor Dávila got things going for America in the 68th minute, scoring in wide open space on a turnover by the Crew. America appeared to be close to finalizing their win when Malte Amundsen equalized in an emphatic nature off a set piece in the 77th minute.
Regular time would end with both sides tied 1-1. After a nail-biting seven rounds of penalties, Néstor Araujo would convert the game-winning penalty following Amundsen's miss.
