    WHAT HAPPENED?

Milan found themselves down a goal within the first five minutes as a clumsy Fikayo Tomori tackle handed Genoa a penalty. Mateo Retegui made no mistake from the spot, giving the visitors their early lead.

Milan fired back just before halftime with Alessandro Florenzi popping up with an unlikely headed finish. However, just three minutes into the second half, Genoa were back in the lead on a goal from Caleb Ekuban.

The Rossoneri, though, stormed back with two goals in three minutes. First up was a header from Matteo Gabbia in the 72nd minute, leveling the score at two apiece. And then, three minutes later, a perfectly flighted Pulisic cross found Giroud at the back post, with the Frenchman rifling a finish into the back of the net to make it 3-2.

There was one more twist late on, with Genoa sealing a share of the points thanks to an 87th-minute goal from Malick Thiaw.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Serie A title is long gone, with Milan's rivals Inter already confirmed as champions. For Milan, the aim will be to finish second and Sunday's draw moves them a little bit closer. With the point, Milan have a six-point lead over Juventus ahead of the Old Lady's match against Roma on Sunday.

Milan, though, are struggling, having now gone six matches in all competitions without a win. Milan fans protested throughout the match, calling on a response from management in response to what fans have deemed a disappointing season.

    USMNT IMPACT

Pulisic was deployed as a No. 10 on Sunday, starting centrally with Rafael Leao and Samuel Chukwueze on either side. The American was unlucky not to get a goal, coming close several times throughout the match, but he did get his assist on Giroud's winner.

Pulisic had two notable chances of his own, hitting the post on one while forcing a spectacular save on another. His 75th-minute assist, though, was his big moment as Pulisic provided more evidence that he can contribute from this No. 10 position.

The assist was Pulisic's eighth of the Serie A season to go with 10 goals.

    GOAL'S RATINGS

    Christian Pulisic (8/10):

Exactly the type of performance Stefano Pioli would have wanted from his No. 10. Created chances for himself and others, culminating in what should have been the game-winning assist. If Pioli wants to use Pulisic in this spot going forward, the USMNT star looks like he'll be just fine.

    WHAT COMES NEXT?

Milan have just three matches left in their Serie A campaign. Up next is a visit from Cagliari on May 11 before the Rossoneri head to Turin to take on Torino on May 19. They'll then close the season against Salernitana on May 26.
