  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Eriksen discussed with Tipsbladet the moment Klopp blew up at Danish reporter Niels Christian Frederiksen over questions relating to Liverpool's perceived intensity during their 4-3 extra-time defeat at Old Trafford. He spoke about it with another journalist on the flight back to Denmark for international duty, while United colleague Rasmus Hojlund sat with Frederiksen himself.

  • WHAT ERIKSEN SAID

Eriksen said: "I laughed a little at that. I happened to meet Per Frimann, who is [Frederiksen's] colleague, on the plane on the way home. I know that Rasmus sat the whole flight home with Niels Christian, so I think they had some good conversations. It's journalism, and what they ask about, it's nothing you have to do with yourself, but Klopp was of course tired and irritated after they lost."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Amad Diallo scored Manchester United's 121st minute winner after Liverpool had thrown away the chance to win 2-1 in normal time. and then gone 3-2 ahead in extra-time.

"What is wrong with you?" is what Klopp said to Frederiksen during a post-match interview for Viaplay.

The reporter later explained what happened: "It continued after what was seen on TV. He continued down the hallway, where he yelled and screamed at me. I also followed him because I thought it was something strange. I interpret it mostly as an expression of his terrible frustration that they lost to Manchester United in the manner it happened, where they were ahead twice and should have sealed the deal. Then he got a question about why they didn't have intensity in the game, and then he snapped. That's fair enough. I have absolutely no problem with that. There will be absolutely no problems in the future. I can't imagine that at all."

WHAT NEXT FOR MAN UTD & LIVERPOOL?

For United, the idea of making this a second successive season with a trophy is still on after being paired with Coventry City of the Championship in the semi-final draw. Cup progression may also inspire them in the Premier League, where they are nine points adrift of fourth place Aston Villa with 10 games left to play. Meanwhile, Liverpool's dream of ending the Klopp era with a quadruple are over. The Reds are still competing for the Premier League title in a closely fought battle with Arsenal and Manchester City, and Europa League, in which they will face Atalanta in the quarter-finals next month, having already secured this season's Carabao Cup.
