  • Chelsea continued to spend heavily on incomings
  • Have brought in 13 new faces during the summer
  • Cucurella labelled Chelsea's dressing room as "difficult"
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Todd Bohely and Co. continued their splurge during this summer window under new head coach Enzo Maresca as several players went in and out of the club. The Italian made it clear that many veterans like Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell were not part of his plans and the club had to create a "bomb squad" to accommodate the rejects.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Maresca is the club's fourth permanent manager since Clearlake Capital completed its takeover of the club which shows that Boehly has refused to show patience if results were hard to find. However, Cucurella has urged the Chelsea hierarchy for some "stability" and focus on a long-term strategy instead of the mass alterations to the squad and sacking of the head coach if the team fails to churn out immediate results.

  • WHAT CUCURELLA SAID

In an interview with the news agency EFE, Cucurella said: "I'm happy, I think the coach we have is very good, he has very clear ideas. We've come from years of changes of coaches, let's see if we can get stability without many changes, and that the manager can transmit his ideas.

"We need stability, we have very high-level players and hopefully we can have that patience that is needed, that calm, so that everything goes well. We have the level, we just need stability and for the coaches and players to be allowed to work in order to do something important."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

When Cucurella was asked if it was hard to build morale with so many new faces in the dressing room every summer, he said: "It's true that it's difficult. Here [with Spain] everything is much easier to create a good atmosphere. At Chelsea, I try, but it's a time of change in which many players leave and others come."

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHELSEA?

Chelsea have got off to a stuttered start under Maresca as they currently find themselves 11th in the standings after three matchdays with just a single victory. They face Bournemouth after the international break on September 14 and the manager will be keen to secure the three points at Vitality Stadium.
