    WHAT HAPPENED?

According to The Standard, discussions at a number of meetings have led supporters to anticipate price increases, although no final decision has been taken amidst an ongoing consultation process. Chelsea are still debating its plan with the Fan Advisory Board, which consists of seven nominated supporters who attend club board meetings, and the Fans' Forum, which is composed of top club executives and elected fans. Following a dismal first season at Stamford Bridge, owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake decided to freeze ticket prices this season. As a result, the club are prepared to alter their ticketing approach.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Blues bolstered their team by spending over £1 billion over the course of three transfer windows, but in order to continue operating sustainably, they will need to generate more revenue, particularly from matchday sales. The cost of running Stamford Bridge has increased by 31% since 2018 since inflation has severely impacted the football industry.

In an era of financial constraints by the Premier League and UEFA, Chelsea, on the other hand, have the lowest operating margin out of the traditional top six teams, which ultimately limits how much can be invested on the pitch. Since the 2011–12 season, general admission ticket prices have been locked, while season ticket prices have actually decreased by 32% since their last hike.

    DID YOU KNOW?

Only Manchester City presently has a lower average ticket price among the traditional major six, with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Fulham having far higher ticket costs within the London region. In addition, 17 out of the 20 League teams raised their season ticket prices ahead of the current campaign, prompting the Blues to consider their own increase in ticket prices.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR CHELSEA?

With only one game remaining in 2023, Boehly and Co. will be looking forward to ending their dismal calendar year with a win over Luton Town when the two teams meet at Kenilworth Road on Saturday, December 30.
