'Better than Wrexham' - Ambitious transfer target Tom Cairney warned off move to join Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney amid talk of lucrative contract offer

After 10 years at Craven Cottage, Cairney is preparing to bid farewell to west London this summer when he reaches free agency. It has been suggested that the talented midfielder could receive an approach from North Wales.

Wrexham, who have seen three successive promotions lift them into the Championship, are daring to dream big. Their Hollywood co-owners are prepared to make the funds available that allow a push towards the Premier League to continue.

It has been reported that the Red Dragons would be prepared to pay Cairney £50,000-a-week if he agreed to take on a new challenge outside of the top tier. The two-cap Scotland international has, however, been advised to aim higher than that.

Former EFL player turned pundit Lee Hendrie has told Football League World of the transfer gossip that Wrexham continue to generate: “I think Tom Cairney still offers an awful lot. I’ve always thought he's a fantastic player and still is a fantastic player. He probably hasn't had as much game time as he would have liked this season.

“I know Wrexham are certainly on the up and things are going well for them and there's a big platform for him to go and play at, but I still think that he can offer Premier League football, I really do, even if it's one of the teams that are coming up.

“Whether that sort of fee entices him, that’s probably down to Tom himself. But I still think that, personally, Tom's better than Wrexham, and that's no disrespect to Wrexham. I think that they'll be trying to entice players like that. But I still think Tom Cairney can still deliver, I still think he offers an awful lot.”

Wrexham are being linked with several players that boast Premier League experience - such as Jamie Vardy and Lewis O’Brien - while Wales internationals Charlie Savage and Tom Lawrence are also said to be registering on their recruitment radar.
