  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The 35-year-old's Bayern Munich exit will bring to an end a hugely successful 25-year career with the German giants. But rather than getting too emotional about his move away, Muller stayed full of smiles after his final Der Klassiker derby, joking with reporters that he could switch to Bayern's arch-rivals but Dortmund "won't send an offer".

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Tributes have poured in for Muller since he announced that he would be leaving the club when his contract ends this summer. In a message to Bayern fans, he explained that "the club has consciously decided not to negotiate a new contract with me for next season. Even if this was not in line with my personal wishes, it is important that the club follows its convictions." It's a huge decision considering Muller's immense contributions during one of the most successful periods in Bayern Munich history.

  • WHAT MULLER SAID

Speaking after Saturday's 2-2 draw with Dortmund, Muller joked: “I asked Sebastian Kehl, but he tells me he won’t send an offer because he thinks Bayern players rarely show up at Dortmund then! They [the fans] wouldn't even know whether they should throw a rose at my head — or a glass of beer.”

    WHAT NEXT FOR MULLER?

Speculation surrounding the World Cup winner's future has been rife, with several clubs across Europe floated as potential landing spots for the German. Rumours of an off-field role at Manchester United have emerged, although it seems more likely that Muller will extend his playing career, with clubs like Cincinatti FC and Fenerbahce reportedly chasing his signature.
