Barcelona injury and suspension list: Is Gavi out for the season?

Just as Barca start to return to full fitness, crisis strikes. The Blaugrana were crippled for almost two months, losing Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, Pedri, Raphinha and Frenkie de Jong for various periods. That they stayed afloat in La Liga during that time is, frankly, surprising.

And right as most of them returned, a far longer, and more serious injury has impacted Barca's season. Gavi tore his ACL on Spain duty in November, and will be out for a long period of time — certainly sure to miss the rest of the campaign. But they have navigated a few tricky fixtures since his injury, and will hope that a fully fit Pedri and De Jong can help propel them back into the title race.

GOAL takes a look at Barca's injury and suspension situation, and how long those sidelined will be out for.

Is Gavi done for the season?

It was hard to watch as the Spanish midfielder ambled off the pitch in his team's Euro 2024 qualifier with Georgia. Gavi was in a visible state of distress after planting awkwardly on his right knee, and seemed to know immediately that something was badly wrong. Subsequent tests confirmed what Barca feared: Gavi had sustained a serious injury. The teenager entirely ruptured his ACL, and also damaged his meniscus, a significant knee problem that will require surgery and leave him out for up to nine months. His season is certainly over, while his participation in Euro 2024 is also up in the air.

Expected return: Sometime next summer. ACL injuries are tricky to gauge, but he will certainly be out for this season. He is scheduled to go under the knife on November 28, the inception of a long recovery process.

    What is Sergi Roberto's knock?

After nearly two months out, Roberto is back in the picture for the Blaugrana. The club offered admittedly few details on his injury — he isn't much more than a squad player these days. Still, he should be something of a boost, if only for the experience he brings.

Expected return: Imminent. Roberto might not have an easy path into the side, but he will be ready to play when Barca need him — likely in a bench role, unless their injury problems worsen.
