Bad news for Chelsea! Liverpool set to win battle to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace as Newcastle also set to miss out on England international

Newcastle United tried and failed to sign the centre-back last summer and now The Mirror states Liverpool are in pole position for the 24-year-old. The report adds their main rivals in the race to sign him looks to be Chelsea but there could be late interest from Manchester City, Arsenal, and Tottenham.

Guehi could be a direct replacement for Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, who said in midweek that he doesn't know where he will be playing next season. The Reds will not secure the England international's signature on the cheap, despite his contract expiring in 2026.

The report adds that Newcastle are 'aware' that they have lost out in the race for Guehi's signature, less than a year on from bidding upwards of £60 million ($77.6m/€71m) for the ex-Chelsea man.

Guehi's two most prominent suitors, Liverpool and Newcastle, are set to lock horns in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday.
