    WHAT HAPPENED?

As has become tradition in recent years, Mexico’s biggest rivalry between América and Chivas will once again be played on U.S. soil. This time, the Clásico will take place as a friendly on Saturday, Oct. 11, during the FIFA international break, at State Farm Stadium, home of the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals.

It will be a special return to the Arizona desert, as the last time the two sides met in that city was in 2006, in one of the first events held at the then newly built Cardinals’ stadium.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

This new clash comes just over a month after their Liga MX meeting at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes on Matchday 8 of the Apertura 2025. It will also mark the second consecutive year that the Clásico Nacional is played in the U.S. in October. In last year’s friendly at Houston’s NRG Stadium, América defeated Chivas 2-0.

    WHAT HÉCTOR GONZÁLEZ IÑÁRRITU SAID

The matchup reinforces the tradition of bringing Mexico’s most emblematic game to the United States, capitalizing on the large fan base in the region and the international reach of both clubs.

Héctor González Iñárritu, President of Club América Operations, stressed the importance of these friendlies to the Liga MX sides.

“Another edition of ‘El Clásico de México’ in the United States is a great opportunity to bring fans closer to the sport and to live a unique experience that only a match between the two most popular teams in Mexican football can offer," he explained. “It’s very important for the Club to continue playing high-level matches in the U.S., while helping our loyal fans maintain a special connection with Mexico and with the region’s most successful team, Las Águilas.”

Chivas Sporting Director Javier Mier echoed Iñárritu thoughts.

“After nearly a decade without visiting Phoenix, we are very excited to return for a Clásico de México,”he said. “To do so with a match of this magnitude, reconnecting with our supporters in the U.S., fills us with pride and motivates us to the maximum. I’m sure it will be an unforgettable day, one we hope to finish with a strong performance and, of course, a victory, which is what La Nación Rojiblanca always deserves.”
