'So f*cking dissastified' - Alexander Isak lets rip and admits it's 'not fun to be booed' after Sweden's World Cup hopes take huge hit with Kosovo defeat

The Swedes were beaten 1-0 on home soil by Kosovo in their latest outing, with that sorry defeat leaving them rooted to the foot of Group B with just one point to their name from four games. They must enjoy a faultless run through their remaining matches, while hoping that Kosovo come unstuck, in order to stand any chance of reaching the play-offs.

Sweden had been hoping for much more, with plenty of talent at their disposal - including Isak and fellow frontman Viktor Gyokeres - and Tomasson is now seeing serious questions asked of his future. Many disgruntled supporters have called on him to resign.

Isak is reluctant to be dragged into that debate, but told news outlet Dagens Nyheter after seeing the Swedes suffer another humbling reversal against opponents that they are expected to beat: “I don't know. We players are so f*cking dissatisfied. And as I've said before, we take a lot of responsibility ourselves. We look at ourselves in the mirror. And no one is approved. Not us players, not us as a team. And that of course includes the coach and everything around. But those questions, we don't get involved in them.”

Sweden were jeered by their own fans after putting in another forgettable display, with Isak adding when addressing the disappointment in the crowd: “It's not fun. It's not fun to be booed. At the same time, you can't demand much more. We have underperformed enormously. It's sad that we are in this situation.”

Isak was seriously downbeat when speaking to the assembled media, with the 26-year-old forward going on to say of the predicament that Sweden now find themselves in: “It’s too damn bad. Embarrassing. Disappointed once again. We’re playing too badly. The way we’re playing doesn’t work. We’re doing it too badly individually too. So it’s a combination of everything really. I don’t know what we’re going to do. But it’s all too bad.”

He went on to say when pressed further on his “embarrassing” assessment: “Just in general. The position we are in with one point. I think, with all due respect to Kosovo, that they are playing very well. Partly because we are doing them well. They are perhaps better than you think, but I still think that we should be able to do better with the players we have.”

Another Premier League-based Sweden star, Newcastle United winger Anthony Elanga, offered his apologies to those that turned out in force to support their country and were seriously let down by underperforming players on the field. Elanga said: “We just want to say sorry to the Swedish people who came and supported us. Thank you for the support, but sorry that we lost. Right now it’s hard to describe what we feel.”

Sweden have a month to lick their wounds and plan a response. They will not be in action again until the next international break, when facing Switzerland on November 15. Their World Cup qualification campaign will be completed when playing host to Slovenia - with nothing less than maximum points being demanded across those fixtures.

Isak will hope to have rediscovered his spark by the time those games roll around. He missed out on a pre-season after becoming caught up in a protracted transfer saga. He eventually secured a record-breaking move to Liverpool, in a £125 million ($166m) deal, but is still working on gaining full match sharpness and has registered just one Carabao Cup goal for the reigning Premier League champions across six appearances in all competitions. The Reds will be back in action on Sunday when welcoming old adversaries Manchester United to Anfield.
