AC Milan move to tie Alexis Saelemaekers to new contract after rejecting Aston Villa, Juventus & Roma interest

Saelemaekers has re-established himself as a key figure at Milan after back-to-back loans away from San Siro. The winger’s versatility and tactical intelligence have made him indispensable in Max Allegri’s 3-5-2 setup, with his assist for Luka Modric’s winning goal against Bologna underlining his growing influence. 

Milan, whose hierarchy rejected approaches from Roma, Juventus and Villa over the summer, are now keen to reward him with fresh terms beyond 2027. The plan is to extend his deal until 2029, with an option for 2030 and an improved salary, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Rossoneri's decision to hold firm against suitors highlights how much Saelemaekers’ stock has risen in recent months. His ability to operate both offensively and defensively on the right flank gives Allegri balance, while his form has eased pressure on the club’s recruitment strategy. For Igli Tare and the Milan board, securing his long-term future fits into a broader renewal plan aimed at protecting key assets before rival clubs circle again.

Negotiations are expected to open with the players’ representatives in the coming weeks, with optimism that an agreement could be reached before the end of the year. Milan are reviewing contracts of players expiring within the next two seasons, and the Belgian’s case has been prioritised. Despite Roma’s €20 million (£17m/$23m) approach in May and Villa’s aggressive pursuit over the summer, the Rossoneri consistently refused to entertain bids, convinced by Allegri’s insistence that the 26-year-old remain central to his squad rebuild.

Milan will meet Udinese at the Bluenergy Stadium this weekend, where Saelemaekers is expected to continue as a starter on the right wing. Talks over his extension are set to advance in parallel, with both the club and player keen to finalise terms before 2025.
