Ángel Correa would become the fourth World Cup champion to wear Tigres colors in the club’s 65-year history.
The list began with José Eduardo Américo, better known as “Edú,” who played alongside Pelé at Santos FC and was part of Brazil’s 1970 World Cup-winning squad. The three-time World Cup participant joined Tigres for the 1979-80 and 1980-81 seasons, scoring four goals during his stint.
The second was Argentine midfielder Sergio Almirón, a standout with Newell’s Old Boys and a member of Argentina’s title-winning team in Mexico 1986. He had a brief spell with Tigres in 1989.
The most recent before Correa was French winger Florian Thauvin, who joined the club in 2021 during the Miguel Herrera era. Despite arriving with high expectations after being part of France’s 2018 World Cup-winning squad in Russia, Thauvin never managed to make a lasting impact in Liga MX.
